Christian Schwartz (University of Würzburg) presented results from the ITC SSEEGN published paper "Trade-Offs for Video-Providers in LTE Networks: Smartphone Energy Consumption Vs Wasted Traffic“ at the COST ACROSS workshop and MC meeting hosted at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam. This talk allowed for the further dissemination of results obtained in the SmartenIT project to a wider audience. The COST ACROSS action (http://www.cost.eu/domains_actions/ict/Actions/IC1304) aims to create a network of experts, from both academia and industry, aiming at the development of autonomous control methods and algorithms for a reliable and quality-aware IoS. This goal results in an natural intersection of interests with SmartenIT. The
talk by Christian Schwartz showed the trade-off between end user in terms of
energy consumption and service provider in terms of cost and delivery
bandwidth vor video streaming services which is one of the selected
SmartenIT applications. As an outcome, it is shown that traditional traffic
management approaches are not able to satisfy the contradicting goals of
the stakeholders in the SmartenIT ecosystem. The following discussion provided insight on possibilities to use application and UE knowledge to optimise energy consumption caused by RF equipment depending on the used mobile communication standard. |
